Waxing is a form of semi-permanent hair removal which removes hair from the root. Unlike shaving or using depilatory cream (in which the hair is removed at the surface of the skin), waxed hair will not grow back for approximately four to six weeks. Some people might experience regrowth earlier due to the hair being on a different growth cycle than hair removed.
The experienced estheticians at Paragon Med Spa offer full body and facial waxing services. To prepare for our services, skin should be clean, dry, lotion and powder free. If skin is sensitive, it is best to avoid caffeine prior to a treatment, since caffeine can stimulate the nerve endings and make waxing more uncomfortable. All topical prescription medications for acne and all retinols must be stopped for at least a week prior to facial waxing to prevent burns or tears to the skin. There must be at least two weeks of hair growth (approximately ¼ inch) in order for the wax to adhere to the hair.
At Paragon Med Spa, “soft” waxing using strip cloths is accomplished by spreading a thin coating of warmed wax over the skin. A paper strip is applied to the still warm wax, pressing firmly so the strip, hair and wax adhere to one another. When the wax has cooled, the strip is quickly pulled against the direction of hair growth as parallel to the skin as possible to avoid trauma. This procedure removes the wax along with the hair.
Discomfort during the procedure, although not long-lasting, can be intense. Ibuprofen (Motrin®) or Acetaminophen (Tylenol®) may be taken an hour prior to your wax to lessen pain. Some people experience ingrown hairs, red bumps and bruising due to hair follicle trauma and lifting of the skin after a session. Your esthetician will instruct you thoroughly in post-waxing care.
Waxing services should be performed every 3-4 weeks throughout the entire year to obtain the best results. Cost: $20+
